Notice of Privacy Practices (HIPAA)

Your privacy is important to us. This Notice of Privacy Practices explains how your protected health information (PHI) may be used and shared, and how you can access your health information.
How We May Use Your Information
Your health information may be used or disclosed for:

  • Providing, coordinating, and managing your mental health care

  • Communicating with you about appointments, treatment, and services

  • Completing billing and payment activities

  • Meeting legal and regulatory requirements

Your Privacy Rights
You have the right to:

  • Request access to your health records

  • Request corrections to your health information

  • Ask for restrictions on certain uses or disclosures

  • Receive a copy of this Notice of Privacy Practices

  • Request confidential communication methods

Confidentiality
Information shared during therapy sessions is kept confidential except when disclosure is required or permitted by law, including situations involving:

  • Risk of harm to yourself or others

  • Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult

  • Legal requirements such as a court order

Your Information Is Protected
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal and health information through secure systems, ethical practices, and compliance with applicable privacy laws, including HIPAA regulations.

Appointments

Appointments are scheduled in advance and are conducted through our secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. We encourage clients to log in a few minutes before their scheduled appointment time.

Cancellation and No-Show Policy

Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours' notice.

  • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee.

  • Missed appointments ("no-shows") may be charged the full session fee.

  • Repeated missed appointments may result in discontinuation of services.

Telehealth Policy

Expectations Counseling is a virtual-only practice. All counseling sessions are provided through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

Clients are responsible for:

  • Having a private, confidential location for sessions.

  • Using a reliable internet connection.

  • Logging in on time for appointments.

Emergencies 

Expectations Counseling is not a crisis or emergency service.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency:

  • Call 911

  • Go to your nearest emergency room

  • Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

Social Media Policy

To protect client confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries:

  • Friend or follow requests on personal social media accounts cannot be accepted.

  • Client confidentiality will always be protected online.

  • Reviews or comments on social media are entirely voluntary.
